The Elections Commission (EC) has announced that more than 700 complaints have been received regarding the voters' registry for the upcoming Local Council and Women’s Development Committee elections.

The deadline for submitting complaints for the council elections, scheduled to take place on April 4, expired today.

According to the EC, a total of 779 complaints had been submitted by the time the deadline passed at 3:00 PM this afternoon.

The commission noted that the complaints primarily involve issues such as changed addresses, changes in residency, and the names of deceased persons remaining on the registry.

The EC stated that the final voters' list will be publicized after reviewing the received complaints and making necessary corrections. They also mentioned that the period for registering to vote at a specific location, or re-registration, will be opened at a later date.

The EC opened the opportunity for candidates to contest in the election yesterday. For this election, applications must be submitted through an online portal. A two-week window has been provided for submitting applications, which will remain open until the first of next month.

According to the EC portal, more than 300 candidates have applied so far.
