In an unfortunate tragedy this morning, the capsizing of the Balma-6 boat near Taj Exotica Resort in Kaafu atoll led to the death of one individual, while another remains missing.
According to MNDF, four persons were aboard the vessel at the time of the incident. A passing boat rescued two of the crew members, while MNDF launched a search for the other two, a Maldivian and a foreigner.
Later today, the body of the missing Maldivian was found in the sea near Taj Exotica Resort. The foreigner remains missing.
The deceased has now been identified as Ali Hussain, 60, of Muniya, B. Hithaadhoo.
Ali Hussain had been working on Balma-6 for many years. He had begun working on sea vessels from a young age, and is known in his community as an experienced captain.
Hithaadhoo Council President Abdul Azeez Mohamed remember Ali Hussain as a friendly, kind man who had been well-liked by all who knew him.
"He spent most of his life at sea. He used to work as captain on fishing vessels. Then later as captain on supply boats. From what I have learned, he has worked many years on this vessel that was capsized today as well,"
