Sharp-edged fan clams have been found in the sea near Rasfannu, a popular area frequented by swimmers and beachgoers.

Former Ghiyassuddin School principal Ali Musthafa raised the issue in a social media post, warning that a large number of the clams are present in shallow waters at Rasfannu beach.

Musthafa shared photographs taken while snorkelling in the area, identifying the shells as fan clams with very sharp edges. He said many of the shells are partially buried in the sand, posing a risk to people walking barefoot in the water.

He also marked the areas with the highest concentration of shells on a map, indicating that they are mainly located near the Rasfannu restaurant beach.

“A lot of people walk through this area when the tide is low. Those who are barefoot should be especially careful,” he wrote.

Musthafa noted that the clams are edible and suggested that removing them, even though they contain only a small amount of meat, could help reduce both their numbers and the risk of injury to swimmers.

Rasfannu, which is also used for swimming and exercise classes, is a popular spot for children and elderly residents.
