Elections Commission (EC) has opened nominations for the local council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) elections scheduled for 4 April.

Nominations for both elections opened today and will close at 3.30 pm on 1 February, the commission said.

Candidates are required to submit all documents and pay the administrative fees through the EC’s online portal, my.elections.gov.mv.

The commission will notify applicants of its decisions through the same portal.

Online applications can be submitted daily from 8.30 am to 3.30 pm, except on Fridays when submissions will be accepted from 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm.

The elections will see voters choose island council presidents, vice-presidents and councilors, as well as city mayors and councilors. Members of Women’s Development Committees will also be elected.

The EC said voter lists for both elections were released on 8 January. According to the lists, 294,937 people are eligible to vote.

Representatives will be elected from 225 constituencies across the local council and Women’s Development Committee elections.
