Major vape supplier arrested in Hulhumalé

Under the 2024 amendment to the Tobacco Control Act, importing and using vapes is prohibited in Maldives.

A man was arrested in Hulhumalé on Thursday on suspicion of operating a large-scale vape business.

According to the police website, the individual arrested during an operation in Hulhumalé is 25-year-old Nuham Mohamed Shiyan of G. White Rose.

The website further stated that upon his arrest, a search of his apartment led to the discovery of a large quantity of nano cartridges, vapes, and pods, in addition to cash.

When Nuham was brought before the court for his remand hearing, he was ordered to be detained for a period of 15 days.

Under the 2024 amendment to the Tobacco Control Act, importing and using vapes is prohibited in Maldives.

While numerous individuals have been fined in the millions for importing these items, others have also been arrested previously on suspicion of trading them.
