Maafushi vessel runs aground with tourists onboard

As per a social media post via the Marine Police, the vessel was carrying 72 passengers to Maafushi, with the vessel experiencing an engine failure and running aground onto the Enboodhoo reef at around 11:30am yesterday.

A K. Maafushi vessel that had many people on board ran aground yesterday.

No one was injured in the incident.

As per a social media post via the Marine Police, the vessel was carrying 72 passengers to Maafushi, with the vessel experiencing engine failure and running aground onto the Enboodhoo reef at around 11:30 am yesterday.

The police said that all passengers have been saved.

The vessel had 67 tourists, three Maldivians and two foreign crew members, as per the police.

The police stated that they are working with the owner of the vessel to salvage it.

The Maafushi vessel conducts one trip daily aside from Friday from Male' to Maafushi, with it being used by many passengers and to move supplies.
