More than 60 youths have departed to begin technical training under the government’s national service programme.
In a social media post, President Mohamed Muizzu said 66 youths had been selected for vocational training from among participants who completed the first phase of the programme, which aims to develop confident, resilient and responsible young people.
The four-month technical training programme includes youths aged 16 to 19 from 35 islands across the Maldives. Launched last year, the national service initiative received 1,244 applications.
A total of 350 youths took part in the first round of the programme, which consisted of three months of initial training.
The president said the technical training will be conducted at the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) training centre in Baa atoll Kihaadhoo
President Muizzu said that participants will receive training in a range of technical fields.
