The government plans to launch a second version of its online services portal, e-Faas, later this year.
Home Ministry state minister Dr Mohamed Kinaanath said e-Faas 2.0 is expected to be rolled out mid year as part of the government’s digital transformation initiative “Maldives 2.0”.
Speaking on state media PSM’s Raajje Miadhu programme on Wednesday, Kinaanath said upgrading e-Faas was a key priority for the National Centre for Information Technology (NCIT), which he oversees.
He said the new version is being developed in response to public complaints that the existing platform is not user-friendly.
According to Kinaanath, e-Faas 2.0 will include several major improvements, including eliminating the need for users to log in repeatedly, simplifying the process of applying for government services, and allowing parents to manage accounts for children under the age of 10.
“Currently, children under 10 are not included as e-Faas users. We plan to introduce a version that allows parents to log in on behalf of their children,” he said.
Kinaanath acknowledged that access issues have persisted for years, noting that a comprehensive update to the platform has not been introduced since 2012.
The Home Ministry said around 272,000 people currently use e-Faas.
