315 complaints filed regarding voters list

Elections Commission (EC) stated last night that 315 complaints have been filed regarding the voters list for the upcoming Local Council and Women's Development Committee elections to be held on April 4.

The voters list was publicized on 8th January, with 294,937 eligible voters.

The commission stated that complaints include a change of residence due to address changes in the registry and to remove names of deceased individuals from the registry.

The deadline for submitting complaints for the voters list is 18th January, 3:00pm.

The EC appeals to everyone to check the registry of those who are eligible on the voters list and to confirm the information on the registry before the deadline.

As per a recent announcement from the EC regarding the voters list, "Those who want to convey any eligibility changes to the registry or any other inclusions or exclusions can submit their complaints. A copy of the official document that verifies the validity of the complaint is to be submitted along with any complaint regarding the inclusion and exclusion of an individual, or if any information regarding the registry is to be changed."

The commission said that if political parties want to file complaints regarding the voters registry, they can do so by going to the "Simedha Portal", a portal specific to political parties.

As per the EC, along with the government's Gazette and the commission's website, those who want to check the voters registry can do so by sending an SMS to 1414, written like so, "VR<space>IDCardNumber". The commission said that complaints can be submitted through My Portal (https://my.elections.gov.mv/).
