Criminal Court has fined Abdullah Mufshir for cutting and stealing copper pipes from a compressor outside a container at the Galolhu Mortuary.
According to the charges, police encountered Mufshir near the mortuary in June last year.
He was searched after exhibiting suspicious behavior and was found in possession of copper pipes removed from the compressors.
Copper theft is common in Maldives, with stolen materials often sold for quick money, particularly among individuals with drug addictions.
Mufshir pleaded guilty to the charge of unauthorized possession of another person’s property. The prosecution did not object to a reduced sentence due to his guilty plea.
The court imposed a fine of MVR 10,800 instead of a jail term, noting that Mufshir had submitted documents showing he was currently employed.
