A Maldivian man who returned to the country yesterday after completing the Umrah pilgrimage has passed away suddenly.
The deceased has been identified as Ahmed Latheef of Ratamalaanage, Fuvahmulah.
According to sources, Latheef had just completed his pilgrimage and arrived in the Maldives on Monday. He passed away from a heart attack while in AA. Thoddoo, where he was spending a holiday with his family before returning to his home island.
Ahmed Latheef was an employee of the Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) in Fuvahmulah.
In a social media post, the Fuvahmulah City Council confirmed that he was the elder brother of Aminath Inaya, the Council Member for the South West Constituency.
The City Council expressed their deepest condolences to the family on behalf of the entire council.
His passing marks the fourth death among Maldivians who traveled for Umrah during this holiday period. The others include a 62-year-old man who traveled with Al-Manasik, and two men who traveled with the Safa and Hijaz groups, respectively.
Additionally, another Maldivian pilgrim who fell critically ill during the pilgrimage was medically evacuated back to the Maldives on a Maldivian flight on Monday.
