Woman, 57, arrested, with prior drug record

A 57 year old woman has been arrested for drug trafficking and placed on remand for three days. 

The Criminal Court's remand order notes the woman was arrested after drugs of trafficking weight were found on her or at a linked site, though she denies the charges. 

The woman arrested for drug trafficking is Aminath Ibrahim, 57, of Mushikulaage, Feydhoo, Addu. 

The woman has a prior record of drug offences. 

The court order said that a short remand period was set for her because although she has been assigned a lawyer, the lawyer has not yet been appointed to the court. 

Police have ramped up anti-drug efforts, with a large scale operation 'Operation Alimagu' having been launched. Under these efforts, police conducted an operation in GA atoll and Male' on Sunday, arresting four individuals on charges of drug trafficking and laundering the proceeds. The investigation uncovered that millions of rufiyaa have been rolled through their accounts.
