Political appointee arrested in drug bust dismissed

The political appointee at the Economic Ministry who was amongst the four individuals arrested in Sunday's drug bust has been dismissed from his position.

The political appointee at the Economic Ministry who was amongst the four individuals arrested in Sunday's drug bust has been dismissed from his position. 

On Sunday, Police conducted an operation in GA atoll and Male' targeting a network involved in drug trafficking and laundering of the proceeds. During the operation, four individuals from GA. Vilin'gili were arrested. 

Of the four, Ahmed Anaam Ibrahim was a Senior Political Director at the Economic Ministry at the time of his arrest. The President's Office confirmed yesterday that Anaam has now been dismissed. 

Another of the arrestees, Shaffah Latheef, was a Political Director at the Home Ministry during the previous MDP administration. 

The other two individuals who were arrested are Ahmed Madheeh, Muzikige, GA. Vilin'gili, and Nooruhnizam, Araairuge, GA. Vilin'gili. 

When presented in court for their remand hearing, all except Nooruhnizam were placed in remand in custody until the end of trial. Nooruhnizam was remanded for 15 days.
