8,680 students studying under free degree programme, 6,640 graduate in two years

As of last year, 5,863 students were registered under the free degree, of which 3,765 were female and 2,098 were male.

Over 8,000 students are currently studying under the goverment's free degree programme, Higher Education Ministry said today.

Higher Education Ministry today released statistics of students studying under the government's free degree programme.

According to the figures, 8,680 students are pursuing free degrees.

In the past two years, 6,640 students pursuing free degrees, which includes 4,370 females and 2,270 males, have graduated.

As of last year, 5,863 students were registered under the free degree, of which 3,765 were female and 2,098 were male.

So far, a total of MVR 301.66 million has been disbursed to students under the free degree programme, compared to MVR 151.30 million last year alone.

A total of 602 students are pursuing higher education in Maldives and 20 countries abroad under scholarships. While MVR 471.08 million so far have been disbursed, MVR 222.17 million were disbursed last year alone.
