Aasandha has said today that medical coverage will be provided once a doctor's referral letter and relevant documents are completed and submitted in cases where patients need to travel abroad for treatment.
Aasandha issued this clarification following a post that has been circulated on social media since yesterday.
The post is from the family of Moosa Muzdhan, an 18 year old victim of an accident that occurred in Hulhumale' Phase 2 on November 10 last year. The 19 year old rider of the second motorcycle lost his life in the accident.
In the post, Muzdhan's father, Ahmed Shareef, wrote that Muzdhan was seriously injured in the accident. He claimed that they have been unable to secure medical coverage from either NSPA or Aasandha to take Muzdhan abroad for treatment.
The family said that despite submitting documents to both agencies, they have not received any help. They appealed to the public for assistance.
In response to the post, Aasandha said today that if a referral letter from a doctor and relevant documentation is submitted, then coverage will be provided under set policies to take patients abroad for treatment.
Shareef also stated that Muzdhan has undergone two eye surgeries at EyeCare and Hulhumale' Hospital for injuries sustained during the accident.
Injuries to the left eye caused vision loss, and requires additional surgeries, he said, adding that although the surgeries are available in country, the family wishes to take him abroad for treatment.
Shareef said that they have appealed for public assistance as they failed to receive any support from the government.
