President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced last night that the government is doing a lot of work within the Male' region, and that he wants a team at the local level who can fully cooperate with him for future plans.
President Muizzu said this during the official opening ceremony of the PNC Office in connection to the Local Council Election to be held on 4th April.
The President said that he needs cooperation from the Mayor of Male' all the way to Male' Councilors during the election.
As per President Muizzu, with the amendment to the law, three councilors will be running for Hulhumale' this time around. As it is an important part of Male', the President said that the government wants municipal work to be done at a council level.
"Even so, Hulhumale' needs to have councilors that have the frame of mind that can work at the quality and speed I foresee for the residents. Only then can the councils work freely on providing municipal services or via councils. Even now city councils have not been handed over these responsibilities," said President Muizzu.
And so, the President has repeatedly requested that PNC councilors he can cooperate with and they cooperate with him be elected so that things such as housing for island residents and road repair can be provided for island residents.
Nothing will move forward if we do not receive cooperation from councils, delays will occur. Operations may move forward somehow. But delays are something the citizens do not want.President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu
As per President Muizzu, former Defense Minister and former Chief of Defense Force Moosa Ali Jaleel is a fair, honest and capable individual, who will be running for Mayor of Male' under PNC's ticket.
President Muizzu also requested that Mushrif Ali, who is running under PNC's ticket for Mayor of Addu City, a city which has the largest population aside from Male', be elected.

Regarding Addu, the President said that there are many development projects underway. He also said that he wants councilors in Addu who will cooperate with the government at a local level for such projects.
"In that same vein, many important projects have been signed in Thinadhoo City, Fuvahmulah City and Kulhudhuffushi City, with many a work having started and put on this year's budget," said President Muizzu.
"Each of those projects needs aid from councils for various reasons. Nothing will move forward if we do not receive cooperation from councils, delays will occur. Operations may move forward somehow. But delays are something the citizens do not want."
The President said that electing councilors that will cooperate with the government will allow development projects to finish in a short amount of time.
