The Civil Court of the Maldives reported today that it concluded over 6,000 cases by the end of 2025, marking the highest number of cases completed in the court’s history.
According to the statistics for 2025 released by the court, a total of 5,680 new cases were filed during the year, representing a 10.46 percent increase compared to 2024, which saw 5,142 registered cases.
In terms of productivity, the Civil Court successfully concluded 6,718 cases in 2025, a substantial 23.68 percent increase from the 5,432 cases resolved in the previous year.
These figures do not include miscellaneous matters such as temporary injunctions. With 17 judges currently presiding at the court, this translates to an average of over 395 cases concluded per judge. This record was achieved despite the court continuing to manage and process cases manually, outside of an automated digital case management system.
The report further detailed that the court made rulings on 126 matters concerning procedural decisions and jurisdiction, and decided on 166 cases related to temporary injunctions, up from 103 such orders in 2024.
The Civil Court also currently maintains the largest bench of judges in the Maldivian judiciary to address the growing legal workload.
