621 polling stations for local council elections; overseas voting in Malaysia and Sri Lanka

A total of 294,937 voters are eligible to vote in the elections. Of these, 144,527 are women and 150,410 are men.

Elections Commission (EC) has decided to establish 621 polling stations for the upcoming local council elections, scheduled for April 4.

In an announcement issued yesterday, the EC said 321 polling stations will be set up across the atolls.

Additional polling arrangements include:

  • 240 polling stations in Male', Hulhumale', and Vilimale for residents of Haa Dhaalu Kulhudhuffushi, Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo, Fuvahmulah City, and Addu City who are living in the Greater Male' area.
  • Three ballot boxes in industrial islands
  • Five ballot boxes in prisons
  • 50 ballot boxes in resorts
  • Two overseas polling stations, located in Malaysia and Sri Lanka

Elections Commission said representatives will be elected in 225 constituencies for local councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs).
