Man arrested for assaulting elderly woman in Male'

A man was arrested today in connection with the violent assault of an elderly woman in a narrow alley in Malé. 

Upon being presented to the Criminal Court for a remand hearing, the suspect, identified as Ali Imran Waheed of G. Shaaraz, was ordered to be detained in custody for a period of 10 days while the investigation proceeds.

The incident gained public attention after a video of the assault circulated on social media last night. The footage depicts a distressing scene where a bystander attempts to intervene and separate the attacker from the victim. 

Despite these efforts, the perpetrator continues the attack, punching the elderly woman in the head multiple times with his fist.

The Maldives Police Service has confirmed that they are actively investigating the case.
