Long serving Director General of the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Maimoona, is set to retire from government service.
Sources have confirmed that Maimoona, who is currently on leave, will be leaving public service after 35 years of service.
Maimoona was appointed Director General of the HPA on November 17, 2016. The agency is responsible for disease prevention, public health protection, and health awareness in the Maldives.
Prior to leading the HPA, she served in various roles at the Ministry of Health.
Her leadership gained particular recognition during the COVID-19 pandemic, during which she played a key role in coordinating the national public health response.
Maldives’ efforts to control the pandemic under her leadership were also praised by the World Health Organization (WHO).
