President’s Office has opened nominations for the position of Member of the Elections Commission (EC), as the term of one current member is set to expire.
According to an announcement published by the President’s Office today, the term of EC member Dr Mohamed Zahir will expire first among the current members.
Nominations for the vacant position will be accepted until the 21st of this month.
Applicants are required to submit the following documents:
- Application form for EC membership
- Declaration form of the candidate
- Criminal and debt record form (records must be issued after the date of the announcement)
- Form cleared by the Elections Commission to verify political party registration
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
To be eligible for appointment, applicants must be Muslim and Maldivian, and must not have been convicted of an offence prescribed under Islamic law within the past five years.
Applicants must also not hold any elected or appointed political office under the Constitution or any law, and must not be employed by the government or any other institution.
The President will submit the shortlisted candidates to Parliament, with the final appointment subject to parliamentary approval.
In addition to Dr Zahir, the current Elections Commission consists of President Mohamed Zahid and members Abdul Rahman Solah Rasheed, Hassan Zakariyya, and Abdul Haseeb Ismail.
