Police have arrested two men in Male' after recovering more than one kilogram of drugs from an apartment during an operation carried out by the Drug Enforcement and Counter-Narcotics Intelligence unit.
The suspects were identified as Mohamed Evan Hamid, 30, of Valuthereyge, Gaafu Dhaalu Madaveli, and Mohamed Raaid Ali Asgar, 31, of H. Sakeenaa Manzil, Male'.
Both men were produced before the court and remanded in custody for seven days.
In a separate case, police also arrested an expatriate in Hulhumale' on suspicion of possessing and trafficking liquor.
The suspect was identified as MD Jewel Hossain, 31, a Bangladeshi national. He was arrested yesterday morning after police stopped and searched a van during a routine patrol in Hulhumale' Phase 1.
Police said 134 bottles of liquor were recovered from the vehicle near the Hulhumale' harbour area. When produced before the court for a remand hearing, he was ordered to be held in custody for five days.
Police said investigations into both cases are ongoing.
