The road development project in ADh. Maamigili, which had been stalled for seven years, officially resumed today.

Although the initial efforts of road development on the island's major roads began in 2018 with a two-year completion target, the project was abandoned without a single road being finished.

Even after the previous administration re-contracted the work to the Road Development Corporation (RDC) in December 2020 for MVR 95 million, the project failed to progress beyond the construction of some pavements and the laying of gravel.

During a visit to Maamigili last October, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu assured residents that his administration would resolve the ongoing difficulties caused by the unfinished roads.

Fulfilling this commitment, the Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development announced that the formal asphalting process to upgrade the roads to modern standards has now begun. The project remains under the execution of the RDC.

The resumption of work was marked by a special ceremony held on the island, attended by the Minister of Construction and Infrastructure, Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, and the Managing Director of RDC, Ibrahim Nazim.

This move aims to finally complete the infrastructure that has left the island's main thoroughfares in a state of disrepair since the initial 2018 attempt, providing a long-awaited solution for the local community.
