A dredger has been taken to HA. Dhihdhoo, where land reclamation is set to commence tomorrow. 

Dhihdhoo Council President Abdulla Rasheed said that the dredger docked at the island yesterday, to be used in reclamation of the island's western lagoon. 

Land reclamation will commence tomorrow, he said, which aims to create necessary land for airport development and other essential needs. 

Rasheed said that a special ceremony to inaugurate the work will be held at 4pm tomorrow. 

The Guests of Honour at the ceremony will be Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed and the project's contractor MACL's CEO Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed. 

The third dredger bought through MACL to speed up government's reclamation projects has now been taken to Dhihdhoo. 

The Leiv Eiriksson dredger is amongst the world's largest dredgers. It has the capacity to pump 46,000 cubic meters of sand at a time. 

Last October, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu stated that Dhihdhoo will be the first place to undergo land reclamation with this third dredger. After this work is completed within two to three weeks, the dredger will then be taken to Shaviyani atoll for land reclamation in the atoll's islands, the President said then.

MACL brought in two large dredgers which are being currently used in land reclamation at Hulhumale' Phase 3 and Rasmale'.
