It has been reported that MVR 1.5 million (USD 100,000) was spent on the drone show held on New Year's eve. 

Approximately 600 drones were used in the 15 minute display, Mihaaru News reports. This includes 75 pyrodrones. 

The difference between regular drones and pyrodrones is that pyrodrones are equipped with fireworks or pyrotechnic devices. 

The 15 minute drone show presented a visual story of a child growing up in a local island and witnessing development around him. 

Visit Maldives hosted the New Year festivities titled Maldives Culture and Food Festival in collaboration with BML and HDC. 

The festivities included an extensive offering of food stalls, stage shows and fireworks, held over three days. 

Hundreds of people gathered at the venue on New Year's eve to participate in the celebration.
