Sports Ministry has handed over projects to develop sports facilities in various islands to MNDF's welfare company SIWEC.
The agreement was signed last Tuesday by SIWEC Managing Director Colonel Ahmed Zubair and State Minister at Sports Ministry Mohamed Dhilshan Abdulla.
Under the agreement, SIWEC will be undertaking 20 projects in 17 different islands, Sports Ministry revealed. However, the cost of the projects have not been disclosed.

Projects assigned to SIWEC:
- Changing the turf on the futsal ground in ADh. Fenfushi
- Development of a handball court in ADh. Omadhoo
- Development of a futsal ground in B. Kamadhoo
- Development of a futsal ground in F. Dharanboodhoo
- Development of a volleyball court in F. Dharanboodhoo
- Repair of fence of the futsal ground in GA. Kan'duhulhudhoo
- Development of a swimming track in HA. Dhihdhoo
- Development of a football ground in HDh. Makunudhoo
- Installation of a lighting system at the football ground in HDh. Nellaidhoo
- Development of a futsal ground in M. Veyvah
- Development of a multi-purpose sports ground (handball / futsal) in N. Holhudhoo
- Development of a futsal ground in N. Kendhikulhudhoo
- Installation of a lighting system at the football ground in N. Lholhi
- Development of a multi-purpose sports ground (handball / futsal) in N. Lhohi
- Development of a volleyball court in N. Lhohi
- Development of a football ground in N. Magoodhoo
- Development of an outdoor volleyball court in N. Manadhoo
- Installation of a lighting system at the football ground in N. Miladhoo
- Development of a multi-purpose sports ground (handball / futsal) in N. Velidhoo
- Development of a futsal ground in V. Fulidhoo

An additional 52 sports projects were also included in the 206 PSIP projects the government contracted to private companies last November. The cost of these 52 projects come to MVR 197.30 million.
Previously, similar sports projects were contracted to MTCC and MACL as well.
