Nimal transferred to IGMH, condition remains serious

Nimal suffered a stroke while riding a motorcycle in Male'. He fell after stopping the motorcycle following the incident.

Veteran Maldivian film director Ahmed Nimal has been transferred to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) from ADK Hospital after suffering a stroke Wednesday night.

Nimal, 62, was admitted to ADK Hospital and moved to IGMH on Thursday. A family member said his condition remains serious and that there has been no significant change since his admission.

Nimal made his film debut as an actor in 1984 in Easa Shareef’s Nufoozu. He later rose to fame in 1993 after writing, directing and starring in Sitee, one of the most popular and influential films in Maldivian cinema.

He went on to direct and act in several well-known films, including Zalzala, Yoosuff and Niuma.

In recognition of his contributions to the film industry, Nimal was awarded the National Award for Public Service in 1991.
