Application for 100 housing units in Vilufushi, Thulhaadhoo to open on January 11

Ministry of Housing has announced that applications will open on 11 January for 100 housing units in Baa atoll Thulhaadhoo and Thaa atoll Vilufushi on January 11.

In separate announcements, the ministry said applications must be submitted through the Hiyaa Portal.

The application window will remain open until April 11.

The flats will be allocated in accordance with existing regulations governing the distribution of housing units, the ministry said.

The 100 units were initially offered to eligible applicants under rules set by the former Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure during the previous administration.

However, the process was halted after a case was filed at the Thulhaadhoo Magistrate’s Court challenging a provisional list published by the Thulhaadhoo Council on 9 October 2023 under amended regulations.

The court ruled that the changes were unlawful and invalid, directing that allocations follow the regulations issued on 11 May 2022.

Despite the ruling, the flats were not handed over due to various delays. The ministry said the issue escalated, prompting it to take over the handover process last month.
