Maldives welcomes New Year with drone show and fireworks

Maldives welcomed 2026 with a pyrotechnic drone show and fireworks.

Festivities began on 30 December with the Maldives Culture and Food Festival at Hulhumale' Central Park, which concludes today.

A 15-minute drone show was held at the park at 9 pm.

The display featured a Maldivian children’s folktale, brought to life using 75 pyrodrones and 600 drones. Cultural performances, including boduberu, were also held ahead of the midnight countdown.

Large crowds, including many families with children, gathered at Central Park to watch the celebrations as the New Year was welcomed at midnight.

The New Year event was organized by Visit Maldives in collaboration with partners including Bank of Maldives (BML) and Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
