Although it rained in the southern islands in Maldives, the weather in other regions are fairly decent, stated the MET office today.
A MET Office official told Mihaaru News that the weather in the southern parts of the Maldives is currently poor. They estimate that the southern islands will continue to experience adverse weather today, with conditions expected to improve starting Friday.
"The southern region of Maldives, which spans Addu, Huvadhoo and Fuvahmulah may see heavy rain per our forecast," said the official.
A White Alert has been issued as there are forecasts of heavy rain from Thaa Atoll to Addu.
The official stated that even if there are showers today in islands in Central Maldives, the weather will improve from tomorrow onward, with northern islands experiencing good weather.
"We estimate that the weather across Maldives will get better Friday onward," as per the official.
With the New Year being celebrated tonight, the forecast does not predict that there will be rain at midnight in the Male' region. However, it may be cloudy.
Even if the seas are calm in the north, Central and Southern Maldives may experience strong winds and rough waters.
The Northeast Monsoon started on 17th December in Maldives. This is the fastest the season has shifted in the last five years.
