Adaalath Party opens nominations for party president

Adaalath Party has opened nominations for the post of party president, as the current president’s term is coming to an end.

In an announcement issued on Saturday, the party said only members listed on its official registry are eligible to contest the position.

Candidates must also have served in one of the party’s congresses for at least two years and be familiar with the party’s regulations.

The deadline for submitting nominations is 8 January.

Eligibility criteria

According to the announcement, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Must not hold citizenship of another country
  • Must be 30 years of age or older
  • Must not have been convicted of a crime stipulated under Islamic law
  • Must not have been convicted of fraud or immorality
  • Must be well-versed in Adaalath Party regulations and have participated in a party congress for at least two years
  • Must hold at least a diploma from an MQA-recognized institution, along with three years of practical experience

The party said that if only one candidate is nominated, the president will be elected through a referendum vote. If more than one candidate contests the post, a secret ballot will be held on 31 January, using an electronic voting system.

The current president of the Adaalath Party is former home minister Imran Abdulla.
