The Head of the Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) at MMA Ismail Sajid has been suspended over allegations of sexual harassment.
Sources told Mihaaru News that he was suspended as a woman working in the department had reported such actions from Sajid, with the matter being investigated.
Sajid told Mihaaru News last night that he was informed suddenly, and has been suspended since Sunday. He also said that he is unable to share any details from the suspension letter sent to him by MMA.
MMA has not given any answers regarding the matter when attempting to get an official statement.
The FIU is a unit in MMA that was created under the law in order to protect financial transactions from anti-terrorism financing and money laundering. MMA's governors have the power to appoint and dismiss MMA heads.
Sajid has been the Head of the FIU for only four months. He has previously been a member of the Tax Appeal Tribunal.
Sajid was appointed as the FIU Head in August after former FIU Head Abdulla Ashraf was dismissed and reassigned to a different department.
