Man arrested for smuggling drugs in chocolate syrup bottles

A man has been arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Maldives concealed in chocolate syrup bottles, police said on Friday.

The arrest follows a seizure by customs officials on Thursday night, when hashish oil hidden in 10 boxes of syrup bottles was intercepted.

Authorities confirmed that the bottles tested positive for hashish oil after scanning.

Police have not released further details about the individual arrested in connection with the seizure. Public Service Media (PSM) broadcast footage of the customs inspection live, showing the items as they were examined.
