Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has said that 47 hectares of land has been reclaimed for Hulhumale' Phase 3, with more than 74 percent of the project having been completed.

The project was awarded to Capital Marine and Civil Construction (CMC), with the government having made the decision to reclaim 63 hectares of land under the project. A large area has been reclaimed and connected to Farukolhufushi.

The project had been halted for some time and was restarted on 10th November.

MACL shared the latest details regarding the projects, stating that 47 hectares of land has been reclaimed as of now, which is 74.6 percent of the total to be reclaimed.

In order to expedite land reclamation projects, the government brought a Boskalis trailing suction hopper dredger to Maldives on 26th November and was put to immediate use. The previous dredger in use, along with the new one has sped up the work even more.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said in the past that the work will proceed even faster with the new dredger and that the land will be fully reclaimed by the end of December.

After work on Hulhumale' Phase 3 is done, the two dredgers will be moved to reclaim land for Giraavaru Falhu. The President has estimated that it will be done in two to three months.

Plots were awarded in Hulhumale' Phase 2 and Phase 3 during former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's administration via their Binveriya scheme, with lots having been drawn recently for 698 plots in Hulhumale' Phase 3.

The current government has also decided to allocate 1,351 plots in Hulhumale' Phase 3.
