The academic year that began on 7th April has ended, with the first long holiday for school in the last four years having started Thursday.
With the previous administration having changed the beginning of the academic year to the middle of the year and changing the long holiday as a consequence, some parents had complained regarding the change and requested it be reverted to the December long holiday format, with this change having been done by the current government.
All schools in Male' and at the atolls have ended the academic year, with students having received their report cards.

School will start on 27th January, as per the academic calendar. And so, students will have a one month holiday.


There were 84,000 students who attended schools across Maldives, ranging from preschool students to students in the 12th grade. There are 6,516 Maldivian teachers and 1,843 expatriate teachers who work to teach said students.

The term break for next year's first term will be from 24th May to 30th May. The first term will come to an end with the holiday starting on 17th July and ending on 1st August.

The second term will begin on 2nd August 2026, with the long holiday starting on 18th December 2026 and ending on 12th January 2027. School will be back in session on 17th January 2027.
