Two Bangladeshi's have had their remand increased to 15 days by the court for operating a business without a license in Maldives.

The two who were apprehended and remanded are Afgal Hossain, 31 and Habeeburu Rahman, 34.

As per the Criminal Court's order on their remand, a detailed intelligence report from the police regarding their business was submitted. The report states that many individuals are a part of the business, with a sizable amount of funds having circulated through the business and being used.

The court order states that both individuals have denied the accusation of operating an unlicensed business.

Strict action is being taken with operations underway in order to solve the issue of illegal immigrants in Maldives, along with solving the issue of unlicensed businesses being run by expatriates. Such operations have seen many expatriates detained by Immigration and the police.

Last month, the Economic Ministry began work to stop businesses run by expatriates against the law, with the ministry requesting information regarding such businesses be shared with them. The ministry has said that 11 businesses have been closed and steps taken in the first week their efforts began.
