President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has met with the Taxi Drivers Association of Maldives.

The President's Office stated that a discussion was held regarding finding solutions for the challenges faced in sector and ways to improve taxi service.

President's Office said that the association has shared with the President things that can be done to make arrangements for parking, taxi registration and the changes that have begun being brought about to reduce traffic issues in Male'.

As per the President's Office, the association expressed their opinions regarding the taxi line that is ready to be introduced by the government, along with matters related to the taxi driver's registry.

During these discussions, the President said that it is important to have a registry in order to improve matters related to taxi drivers. The President also shared his thoughts regarding government facilities for taxi drivers.

President Muizzu went on to say that he would work towards solving the issues that were highlighted by the Taxi Drivers Association, which will include other parties that offer taxi services and taxi drivers as well.

With the challenges being faced with the public registry, the government's solution is to implement a taxi line, with MTCC hiring drivers, with employment priority to be given to taxi drivers who have already registered with the taxi driver's registry.

The current government has set aside 50 flats for the housing project for taxi drivers who are on the registry.
