Commissioner of police, Ismail Naveen, has said officers who commit crimes will face strict action and have no place in the police service.
Commenting on the arrest of a police officer accused of attempting to smuggle drugs concealed inside a children’s stuffed toy to Thaa atoll Vandhoo, Naveen said the strongest legal action would be taken against any employee involved in criminal activity.
He stressed that the police service would not tolerate such conduct and would remove officers found guilty of committing crimes.
The suspect, Mohamed Nawaz, 25, who has served in the police force for eight years, was arrested early yesterday morning at Vandhoo harbour. Police said five packets of drugs were found inside the stuffed toy in his possession.
According to police, Nawaz, a resident of Thaa atoll Hirilandhoo, tested positive for drugs following a urine test.
