A new privately funded mosque near the Hiyaa Flats in Hulhumale' Phase 2, Masjid-ul-Eeman, will open on Friday.

The three-storey mosque, built by a prominent family near the red Hiyaa tower flats, has a capacity of 1,200 people.

Islamic Minister Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said on social media that it will be open for Friday prayers.

The opening comes as residents begin moving into new flats in Phase 2, with basic services gradually being provided as the area becomes more populated.

Construction is also underway for another mosque in Phase 2, being built by SJ, which was initially scheduled for completion this month but has been delayed.

Additional mosques are reportedly under construction in the area.
