President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the maximum height for residential buildings in Hulhumale', covering both Phase I and Phase II, will be increased to ten storeys.

The announcement was made during a community meeting with residents of Hulhumale' Phase I at Rehendhi School Hall, part of a series of public engagements aimed at hearing citizens’ views and identifying solutions.

The President noted that parking remains a significant challenge in Hulhumale'. Under the new regulations, buildings up to ten storeys will be required to dedicate the ground floor to parking for residents, with an additional floor allocated for non residential, income-generating purposes such as commercial use.

He added that the necessary regulatory amendments to allow ten-storey buildings will be introduced, making the development opportunity available to residents across both Hulhumale' Phase 1 and 2.

President Muizzu said residential plots allocated under the social category in Phase I through paid agreements had not previously received financial concessions.

The government will now offer a 10 percent discount on the total value stipulated in these agreements, to be deducted from any remaining balance, President Muizzu added.

In addition, rents and deposits for the 4,000 flats in Hulhumale' have been significantly reduced, easing the financial burden on residents.
