Abdul Faththaah to run for Kelaa council president

Following the release of his movie "Hahdhu" in 2017, Faththaah announced his retirement from film-making.

Former Maldivian film director, Abdul Faththaah, has officially announced his decision to run for President of Haa Alifu atoll Kelaa Island Council. 

In a series of Facebook posts, Faththaah shared that he is seeking the People's National Congress (PNC) ticket to represent his birth island. He expressed that his primary motivation is to serve the people of Kelaa and bring about "good governance" for the community, urging party members to support him in the upcoming primary election this Saturday.

Following the release of his movie "Hahdhu" in 2017, Faththaah announced his retirement from film-making. Shortly after, around 2018, he relocated back to Kelaa, where he transitioned into the business sector by opening a restaurant. 

Abdul Faththaah had a long and illustrious career in the Maldivian film industry, becoming one of its most celebrated directors. His portfolio includes famous movies such as "Saadha Vileyrey," "Vehey Vaarey Therein," "Udabaani," and "Vaaloabi Engeynama." He was also the creative mind behind popular teledramas like "Dhoapatta" and "Thiee Mi Hithuge Vindhakee." 

In recognition of his significant contributions to the arts and entertainment sector, the government honored him with the National Award of Recognition in 2004.
