Work has begun to hand over the 4,000 flats, along with the keys, constructed by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) in Hulhumale' to its recipients ahead of the announced date.

The flat handover was expedited as President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had stated that the handover work would begin before the beginning of 2026. During the Male' City community meetings, many residents had requested the keys to the Fahi Flats be handed over soon, with a reduction in the down payment as well.

The rent and the down payment have both subsequently been reduced.

FDC Managing Director Hamdhan Shakeel told Mihaaru News that the date for the flat key handover will begin tonight via the portal with notices being sent.

As per Hamdhan, further details will be publicized soon.

In a statement released by FDC, it reads that the work to hand over the flat keys, to be finished as soon as possible, is being done with the relevant companies as per President Muizzu's instructions. The statement also read that the flat key handovers will proceed via the Fahi portal.

As was made public by FDC earlier this month, the process of handing over all the flats will finish in the last week of January. At the time, the end date for the handovers was also announced.

The opportunity to pay the security deposits for the flats was opened in early September. The keys will be handed over once the security deposit is made.

Due to complaints regarding high amounts of the rent and deposits in comparison with other social schemes from the public, President Muizzu had lowered the rent and deposits of the flats.

The rent and maintenance fee of two-room flats has been lowered from MVR 8,000 to MVR 7,000. The deposit was also lowered from MVR 15,000 to MVR 6,000.

The rent and maintenance fee of three-room flats has been lowered to MVR 10,000. The deposit was also lowered to MVR 8,500.

The rent for three-room flats was MVR 11,500, with the security deposit being MVR 25,000.

Rent does not need to be paid during the first three months following the key hand over. However, the maintenance fee does need to be paid.

The work on the 32 towers, each with 17 to 18 floors, has now ended, with the finishing touches being added.
