Police officer arrested for smuggling drugs in stuffed toy

A police officer has been arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs into THaa atoll Vandhoo by concealing them inside a children’s stuffed toy.

Mohamed Nawaz, 25, was taken into custody following a tip-off and arrested early this morning at Vandhoo harbour, police said.

Officers recovered a stuffed bear containing five rubber packets of suspected drugs from Nawaz. Police also said his urine tested positive for drugs.

Nawaz has been suspended from his police duties pending investigation, police said.
