The draw for land plots under the former government’s Binveriyaa housing scheme in Hulhumale’ Phase 3 began today.

The draw is being held at Kalaafaanu School, with 698 plots allocated from the land reclaimed so far in Hulhumale’ Phase 3.

The Housing Ministry said the draw was necessary after amendments were made to the land use plan for Hulhumale’ Phase 3, which resulted in new lot numbers being assigned to recipients selected under the Binveriyaa scheme.

Plot sizes and allocations

Details of the plots being allocated:

  • 181 plots of 1,650 sq ft
  • 242 plots of 2,050 sq ft
  • 132 plots of 2,450 sq ft
  • 62 plots of 2,850 sq ft
  • 41 plots of 3,250 sq ft
  • 16 plots of 3,650 sq ft
  • 24 plots of 4,000 sq ft

According to the ministry, only one person per plot is allowed to enter the hall during the draw. Plot recipients will receive their plot numbers via SMS once the draw is completed.

The ministry said details regarding land registration and agreements with recipients will be shared at a later stage. The land will be officially handed over once the reclamation of Hulhumale’ Phase 3 is completed.

The government plans to reclaim 63 hectares of land to provide a total of 1,351 plots in Hulhumale’ Phase 3. Of this, 31.5 hectares have already been reclaimed, according to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL).

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu said last month that additional dredgers have been brought in to accelerate the reclamation after earlier delays.

Once reclamation work in Hulhumale’ Phase 3 is completed, both dredgers will be deployed for the reclamation of Giraavaru Falhu, which the President estimates will be completed within two to three months.
