Incumbent Male' City Mayor Adam Azim, who is seeking the MDP ticket for the upcoming local council elections, has provided significant service to the country and remains deeply committed to public service, former Dhidhdhoo MP Ahmed Sameer said last night.

Sameer made the remarks while speaking at the MDP’s main hub, Dhandikoshi Jagaha. He described Adam Azim as an honest and loyal party member who has consistently prioritized service over political convenience.

Sameer, who previously served as a minister at the President’s Office during the last MDP administration, said Adam Azim’s track record across state-owned enterprises demonstrated his suitability to continue as Male' mayor.

“Adam has served with full commitment wherever he has worked,” Sameer said.

“At MWSC, he brought transformation. At STO, he made significant changes. At MTCC as well, he delivered reforms. All of this was before he became mayor of Male' City.”

Sameer credited Adam Azim with finding solutions to long-standing issues in the capital, including flooding, within a relatively short period.

“He is the only person who has found solutions to Male's flooding problem and several other issues in just two years,” Sameer said, adding that the current President Dr Mohamed Muizzu was unable to achieve the same during his tenure as mayor.

Sameer also highlighted Adam Azim’s loyalty to MDP, noting that he remained with the party even when his own brother, Maafannu North MP Mohamed Nazim, contested the presidential election under a different political banner.

“Despite having opportunities elsewhere, Adam never left MDP,” Sameer said.

“Even when there were political divisions within his own family, he did not waver. That is what it means to be an MDP member.”

Sameer said Adam Azim would continue to stand by party members and those who work alongside him, treating them with fairness and respect.
