Dead body found at sea belonging to Chinese national

Police have stated that the dead body that was discovered floating in the sea near Gulhi Falhu yesterday was of a person who attempted to board a speedboat but then had fallen into the ocean.

Police said that the deceased is Cheng Jia, 38 from China.

Police also said that they had fallen into the ocean yesterday at 12:48 pm while attempting to board a speedboat from a barge outside Hulhumale'.

As per the police, those on the speedboat attempted to rescue Cheng Jia when they fell into the sea. Even though they were visible initially, they disappeared beneath the waves, with this information being relayed to another speedboat within the area in attempts to find them, with the information being shared to the Coast Guard as well, said the police.

Cheng Jia was found deceased yesterday at 1:32 pm while the Coast Guard attempted to find them.

It has been made known that he had already passed away when he was being taken to IGMH.

Police said that they are currently investigating the matter.
