Sixty-two percent of Maldivians approve of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s performance, according to a new opinion poll conducted by the Baani Centre for International Policy.
The independent think tank asked respondents whether they approve or disapprove of President Muizzu’s work as president. The survey found that 62 percent of respondents either strongly approve or approve of his performance, while 38 percent said they disapprove or strongly disapprove. This gives the president a net approval rating of +24 points.
The poll shows that 21 percent of respondents strongly approve of the president’s performance, indicating a core base of strong support. A further 41 percent said they approve, suggesting that while a majority view his performance positively, many supporters are not strongly aligned.
Meanwhile, 38 percent of respondents said they were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied with President Muizzu’s performance.
The survey was conducted between 23 November and 1 December 2025 using random telephone interviews. Baani Centre collected responses from 391 participants and said the poll followed international best practices for opinion research.
The results carry a 5 percent margin of error at a 95 percent confidence level, and the data were weighted to ensure a representative sample of voters, Baani said.
Higher support among women and older voters
According to the survey, President Muizzu has a slightly higher support among women than men. Sixty four percent of women said they approve or strongly approve of the president’s performance, compared to 60 percent of men. Disapproval stood at 40 percent among men and 36 percent among women.
Age-based analysis shows that support increases with age. Among voters aged 55 and above, 67 percent expressed approval of President Muizzu’s performance. Support declines among younger voters, with 50 percent of those aged 18 to 24 saying they view his performance positively.
The Baani Centre's chairman is Thoriq Ahmed, and Ismail Humam Hameed serves as vice chairman.
