AA. Ukulhas Council has said that the Russian tourist who went missing from the island still has not been located, adding that they believe he might have been swept out to sea while swimming.
The Ukulhas Council announced yesterday that a male Russian tourist who had been staying at the La Palma Suites guesthouse on the island had gone missing.
He was scheduled to leave the island this morning, but was not been heard from yesterday, raising alarms that he had gone missing.
He travelled to Ukulhas alone on holiday and was last seen late yesterday afternoon, according to the council.
All his belongings, including his mobile phone, are in his room at the guesthouse, the council revealed.
Ukulhas Council President Shaukath Ibrahim told Mihaaru News that the search continues. He noted suspicions the man may have been swept out to sea while swimming, but stressed this is not yet confirmed.
"Most of the signs point to that. The beach towel he had been using and some other items were found near the sea, on the beach," he said.
The Council President believes the tourist went missing either on Tuesday or Wednesday. The weather had been calm on both days, he said.
Police are also searching for the missing tourist.
The council urges anyone with information about the tourist to contact La Palma Suites on 964 6363, or Ukulhas Police Desk at 955 3510.
