High Court has rejected the appeal case submitted against the remand order issued to Ali Nadeem (Milo Nadeem) who was arrested on charges of being involved in widescale drug trade in an operation carried out in Addu.
Nadeem, part of the notorious 'Milo' group in Addu, was arrested on November 28. The Hithadhoo Magistrate Court placed him in remand in custody for 30 days as the investigation proceeds.
Nadeem, who served as a Senior Political Director at the Sports Ministry until his arrest, appealed the remand order at the High Court on Saturday. The High Court decided not to accept the case.
In addition to Nadeem, four others were also arrested in Addu as part of the operation carried out under the wider Operation Alimagu. These are:
- Hafiz Fauzy, 31, Falaah, S. Hithadhoo
- Ibrahim Siraj, 43, Veyofeheburuge, S, Hithadhoo
- Hassan Alfaaf, 28, Dhorufothimaage, S. Hithadhoo
- Ameen Mohamed, 23, Kekurimaage, S. Hithadhoo
Police said that investigations against this network of five individuals suspected of drug trafficking and money laundering had commenced as early as March. The investigation had found that the network had been involved in the drug trade since 2017.
Information revealed to media by the Police indicates that over five years, over MVR 19 million had been circulated through the bank accounts of four people in the network.
