Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture has announced that plants and parts of plants that are imported without a license would be confiscated and destroyed.

According to the ministry’s announcement, many people who travel abroad during the annual school holidays return with plants.

It stated that importation of such items without a prior license from the ministry is prohibited and, thus, such plants will be confiscated and destroyed.

The ministry added that plants and parts of plants can only be imported via Velana International Airport and capital Male’s Commercial Harbor, after declaring the license and relevant documents at the Plant and Animal Quarantine Unit at the port of entry. Imported plants and parts of plants should not contain any soil or compost.
